It's come to light over the last few days that the 1.8TDCi can suffer with terminal small end bearing failure with no prior symptoms. Considering how many 1.8TDCi engines have been produced failure rates seem to be minimal. I couldn't call it a common problem but I Hi all. Its been a while since I posted on here. I have a problem with my son's 2010Focus Titanium 1.6 TDCi. It is a keyless start and entry. The car developed a problem where it posted the message "Key Not Detected". From memory there is a 12 volt feed at pin 3 and the valve is controlled (open/closed using a pulse width modulated ground signal from the pcm) When the valve moves open /close the voltage should vary at pin 4. From memory it's 0.98-4.45 volts open to close (or close to this ) Abrazadera EGR: For the avoidance of doubt I've highlighted the EGR on the pic supplied by Iantt. I recently cleaned the EGR on the 1.8 Duratec (MK2.5) which is basically the same engine, one of the bolts is an absolute "bar steward" to get to, even with the large rubber coolant hose removed. Finally here is a screenshot of how the parameters look like now in Forscan. so you can see egr valve at 88.5 % at idle and all learnt values for the egr. The egr is also opening and closing 3-4 times after engine off from 0% till 99,5% for the cleaning and self test procedure ( thing that was not happening till now ).
