You should really read the book (or at least the first chapters) wirtten by the lead of the Deep Blue programmers. He put it really nice. In the match it was: "human as performers" (Kasparov and his team) vs "humans as toolmakers" (Deep Blue team). The "we lost to the machines!" sounds always either bizzare or shallow to me.
